NORTHERN COMFORT Vs COLIN CURTIS

Northern Comfort v Colin Curtis, 10th October, ManchesterBy robd • Category: Blog, events
October finds us frantically polishing glassware and tables whilst also attempting to locate a length of red carpet, as we get ready to welcome true DJ royalty to our humble home. This month we are hugely proud to announce the presence of a true soul legend; 40 years deep in the game, DJing and digging whilst we were still a glint in our parents eyes and overseeing some of the UK’s most important and influential musical happenings over the past 5 decades. Ladies and gentlemen, please be upstanding for Mr. Colin Curtis.
From modest beginnings as a mobile jock, Colin soon went on to reside at the Northern Soul meccas of The Golden Torch and Blackpool er, Mecca alongside the uber-heavyweight Ian Levine. Not a one-directional traditionalist but a true soul enthusiast he also went on to pioneer the Modern Soul sound at the seminal Ritz all-dayers, got heavily into the danceable end of jazz and fusion as well as following the curve of black music through disco to the dawn of house and the soulful style he represents to this day.
Well known locally as the man behind the superb sessions at Rafters and later Berlin, he’s shared the stage with acts including Brass Construction, Crown Heights Affair and Lonnie Liston-Smith plus DJ’d alongside such luminaries as the aforementioned Ian Levine, Paul ‘Trouble’ Anderson and of course, our old mate Hewan Clark. Tonight however, he’s sharing the back room of the Sally with the NC regulars. We are indeed blessed and probably don’t need to remind you that this will be a very special evening.
