R.I.P. Bobby Martin & Thank You for shaping our musical lives !!
Producer, arranger and songwriter born in Ohio on May 4, 1930. He moved Philadelphia in 1951. He met Kenneth Gamble in 1955, and he began working with Kenneth Gamble in the year 1966. That was the beginning of The Sound of Philadelphia! It was also the transition from Soul to R&B. Bobby Martin is a founder of R&B, he's often referred to as The Granddaddy of R&B. Martin made a big name for himself at Philadelphia International Records, Columbia Records, Warner Bros. Records Inc., and at A&M Records to name a few. Some say that Bobby Martin is The Sound of Philadelphia. One thing for sure, he was definitely a major part of TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia). Although some may consider Bobby Martin as being the Grandaddy of R&B and Soul, Bobby Martin himself has stated that he did not do it all alone. Bobby Martin has made one of the biggest contributions to soul and R&B music ever. Most people remember Bobby Martin for his productions or his Philadelphia Sound Arrangements on artists like The Jacksons, Lou Rawls or The O' Jays. There is a list of Bobby Martin Music that goes on and on.
