RAFTERS MEETS BERLIN BAND ON THE WALL MANCHESTER SATURDAY 8TH OCTOBER 2011
Rafters and Berlin two of Manchesters iconic Black Music Nights from the 80's ! Join forces musically for this special event at Band On The Wall. Rafters spanned from 1978 -1982 and was instrumental in establishing and spreading the Jazz/Funk doctrine in the North West far and wide.The weekly playlists becoming much sought after and then presented in Spin Inn Records on cross street to purchase your own copies of the tunes.As the Jazz / Funk Scene developed through the 80's the more discerning people explored the Jazz Brazilian and Quality Soul that was presented at the the unique cosmopolitan night that became Berlin club in Manchester here Colin Curtis and Hewan Clarke opened the doors for your feet and heads in 1984/1985 from Be Bop / Brazilian Jazz/ Jazz Vocals and laid back quality Soul cutz all blended together with the Black Dance Music of the day influencing many people like Mick Hucknall,Thompson Twins,Mike Pickering,Dean Johnson,Barry Maleady,Tony Cooney,Giles Peterson and many more Manchester and UK tastemakers with its unique vibe covering all Black Music styles.

Valentine Brothers,Nina Simone,Spick & Span,Donald Byrd,Cool Notes,Lenny Sattin,Bobby Womack,Dayton,Janet Lawson,Roy Ayers,The Dells,Kenny Dorham,Dee Felice Trio and many many more opening the door for Manchesters rich musical heritage on the cusp of Chicago's arrival !

Directions:
Band on the Wall is located in the city centre in the bustling and bohemian Northern Quarter - just 10 minutes walk from Piccadilly Gardens Bus Station and 15 minutes walk from Piccadilly and Victoria Railway Stations.
There is car parking after 6pm on both sides of Swan Street where Band on the Wall is located. There are also 24hr NCP car parks within 5 minutes walk of the venue.
